Probably the most asked question that everyone faces at some point is the ole “who am I?” question. It is a question that is a determination of purpose and success. One can answer for many roles in life and see a purpose and validate their success or failure. I am a father and I struggle with it. I am a husband and I am a great lover. All these questions are circulating in the heads of people as they live the daily lives.

Who was Paul Revere? He was the successful guy who roused the militia to defend the US from the British invasion. By successful I mean that he was the guy who got the job done, but he wasn’t the only guy out there trying to do it. There were others but for some reason Mr. Revere made it happen. What did he do that others didn’t?

ImageThis is a study of a shift in philosophy of doing ministry. Mostly, I have been taught that we should set goals in ministry. Those goals usually revolve around a certain program or event that has measurable outcomes. For example, we want to do a concert event where 500 people come and hear the gospel and 50 respond. Most ministries would think this is a good plan, but it is a pipe dream apart from God. That’s not a problem most of the time, since hopefully God is able to do His part.

I saw an article that was called the same as the above except replace Ministry with Business. I thought to myself, “what would that look like for church?” This is the conclusion of that thought. I think, just like the original author, that the questions are more important than the answers and that there needs to be an answer, even though it doesn’t always have to be absolutely correct. The answers tell what you are underutilizing, mis-communicating, mis-prioritizing, etc.
